Antidote 10 v5: An Updated Identity

November 12, 2020 Press releases

Druide informatique is pleased to announce the release of Antidote 10 v5, the fourth free update for the 10th edition. This new version enriches Antidote’s dictionaries with more than 5500 new words and expressions in French and English and showcases the results of an extensive review of our words and expressions relating to identity. Antidote 10 v5 is also the first version compatible with Antidote+ packages.

Druide’s team of linguists has applied all its care and attention in examining a widely discussed topic of the day, reviewing the definitions and synonyms for words relating to identity. Usage labels have been added and outdated expressions have been marked as old-fashioned where necessary. Our team has also made adjustments to words relating to Indigenous people, for example, by favouring Indigenous or First Nations above other, less favoured terms. The dictionaries now indicate the movement away from certain types of terminology in the technology sector, such as the use of master and slave to describe a type of configuration. As for the corrector, its ability to detect a range of impolite or offensive terms has been improved.

In addition to these significant updates, Antidote 10 v5 adds 500 new words and expressions in French, such as géobaliser, distantiel and cours bimodal, as well as 1400 synonyms and 200 new etymologies. Among a series of improvements to the corrector are the handling of superfluous spaces after prefixes and the detection of multiple colons. In English, more than 5000 new words and expressions have been added, such as bodycam, denylist and grasscycling, in addition to 26,000 new synonyms and 2000 new etymologies. Correction has also been improved, for example, of units of measurement. Finally, those who have Antidote for both languages will find more than 20,000 new translations of words and expressions.

What’s more, v5 brings a number of new integrations: Antidote is now compatible with MS Visual Studio Code, Mellel, DayOne and TexPad, as well as Windows 20H2, Ubuntu 20.10 and Fedora 33.

Antidote 10 v5 is the first version to be compatible with Antidote+ packages. This allows those with a subscription to one of these packages to synchronize their favourites, word lists and personal dictionaries across the various platforms on which they use Antidote. The new features of v5 are also available in Antidote Web’s corrector and dictionaries, as well as Antidote Mobile 4’s three offerings, published today.

Druide recommends that Antidote 10 users switch to v5 by downloading the free update; Antidote will offer to do this automatically. Users of a previous edition are encouraged to upgrade to Antidote 10 or to one of the new Antidote+ packages (which include Antidote 10) by visiting www.antidote.info.
