March 27, 2024 Press releases

Éditions Druide applauds author Elsa Simone, recipient of the 2024 Prix littéraire de la Ville de Québec (Adult Literature category) for her novel Jyothi. Presented by the City of Québec and the Salon international du livre de Québec, the prize includes a $5,000 award. It recognizes talented authors from the six boroughs of Québec and Wendake.

“This book is transcendent, a gentle breath of fresh air; the paragraphs flow out before us as if from a clear spring. This first-time author’s work has a luminous quality that holds the reader’s attention right to the end. Told through the eyes of a young woman living in India, the epicurean story explores a corner of the world largely overlooked in Québec literature. Colourful descriptions skillfully delivered and redolent of spices float by as we read. A revelation.” — Jury comments on the novel Jyothi

Elsa Simone lives in Québec at the foot of a mountain of books. Having fallen in love with India in 2014, she has been exploring its rich culture ever since. Through both dance and writing, she strives to express her passion for the country and community that welcomed her so warmly. Jyothi is her debut novel.
