At the Coupe Charade finals held May 6 at Club Soda, François-Étienne Paré was presented the Antidote Cup for his performances over the 2024 season. Sponsored by Druide informatique, this award recognizes adept use of the French language during the spirited improv matches organized by the Théâtre de la Ligue Nationale d’Improvisation (LNI), an improvisational comedy theatre company.

The Antidote Cup was created in honour of Yvon Leduc, co-founder of the LNI and a passionate advocate for the French language, who inspired generations of improv artists throughout the French-speaking world. At the end of each match, the player who was most proficient in their use of French earns a star; at the end of the season, the person who scored the most stars takes home the cup. During the 2024 season, Paré was awarded an Antidote star for three of the six matches in which he played.

This is his third time winning the Cup; he also took it in 2017 and 2013. Paré, a three-time world and six-time national improv champion, has acted as the Théâtre de la LNI’s art director since 2008. A theatre, film and TV performer, he is a cast member of Maria, the first film scripted by comedian Mariana Mazza, and the series L’effet secondaire. He also hosts the documentary series Facteurs de risque and received a Prix Gémeaux in 2001 for his work hosting RDI Junior.

A performance laboratory and a leading Quebec theatre company, the Théâtre de la LNI is dedicated to exploring, producing and promoting theatrical improvisation. In addition to its Coupe Charade matches, tours and other productions, the LNI hosts workshops, courses and shows for both schools and businesses. Nearly 50,000 people attend its activities annually.

The Théâtre de la LNI will be holding a fundraiser on May 22, featuring the third episode of the Soirée VIP LNI : Le Choc des Titans. This match will pit improv legends against each other for the crowd’s enjoyment. Tickets are still available at lni.ca/titans.
